The Important Stuff

Who are Fat Cat Soul Band and what do you do?
Fat Cat Soul Band play a range of Soul, Funk and Motown songs. We are a lively and fun band, who aim to entertain everyone in the room. The majority of our set is straight covers from your favourite artists. We do a couple of slightly different versions of songs, where a little imagination is required for a live setting. We also have a couple of medleys that we perform. These always go down well with people on the dance floor. We pride ourselves in being professional in every aspect of the engagement, from first booking, to the performance, through to packing away at the end of the night. We like to make sure that we think of everything so that you don't have to.

What songs are in your set list?
Click here to see a selection of the songs we play.

How long do you play for?
We can play for up to 3 hours, depending on your requirements. During that playing time we will need to schedule in a break, just to catch our breath. This tends to be for half an hour. We can discuss how you want to schedule this into your day and work around you.

How far will you travel?
We are happy to travel anywhere in the country, having performed at weddings all over the UK. Distance will affect the price. We are based in Portsmouth, Hampshire and we don't charge travel expenses up to 50 miles. Contact us for a quote if you are outside of this area.

What's the latest you'd finish?
We normally finish playing by midnight. This is dependent on the location of the wedding and also the venue - venues tend to have a cut off time so it's worth liaising with them as well. Get in touch with your requirements and we'll try to fit in with your plans.

How much do you charge?
Our price depends on a number of factors including location, day of the week and time of year. For an accurate quote, click here and fill in a few details. We will get straight back to you with our availability and a price. (We aim to reply within 30 minutes)

What equipment do you provide?

Who are you?

How many people are in Fat Cat Soul Band?
As a full band we have 9 members. This is with a 4 piece horn section.

How long have you been performing together?
As a full band with the current line-up, we have been playing together for 3 years. However, (and without giving you a lot of history about people you don't know) the majority of members have been playing together for over 6 years.

Can we request a cut down version of the band?
Please e-mail us for any requirements around this. Unless there is a very good reason we tend to avoid cutting members as this has a direct effect on the ability to authentically cover a lot of the songs.

Do you have insurance? Ie. Public liability
Yes. Public liability insurance of up to £2m. If you, or your venue, need further information of this, please contact us.

What do you play?

What songs do you play?
You can see a selection of the songs we play by clicking here.

What if we want a song that isn't on your list?
As long as it's feasible from an instrumentation point of view, we are happy to discuss any requests. We would prefer to keep it vaguely within the genre - we are a Soul / Funk band so would not be best equipped for an Iron Maiden medley!

Can you play our first dance song for us?
We would be honoured! Contact us with your request and we will make sure that we give this plenty of attention. That way you only have to worry about the dancing, not the music!

When you play

How many sets do you play?
We can play for 2.5-3 hours and this is normally split into 2 sets. We're happy to tailor this to suit your timings but we do find that two longer sets works better than three shorter ones.

Can you work the sets around specific sections of / events throughout the evening?
Yes. Let us know the plan for your evening and we can work with you to fit everything in, in the way that you want.

If the event overruns, are the agreed timings flexible?
Yes - we are willing to be flexible for up to around an hour either way.

Can we see you play before we book you?
Yes - check out the gigs calendar on the homepage for any public gigs that are coming up. Let us know if you're intending to come. We'd love to meet you, buy you a drink and have a chat. If there aren't any public dates that suit you, let us know. We can arrange for you to come along to a rehearsal where we can play a few tunes for you.

Do you have any references we can contact before making a booking?
Check out our reviews page to read some testimonials and feedback.

Can we meet you to discuss our event?
Sure. If you come to one of our gigs then you can meet everyone and we can have a chat about things. Or we're happy to arrange a time where one or two of us can meet with you to chat through any details.

Is there a contract?
Yes. In order to make sure all expectations (from both sides) are understood prior to the event we find it best to have a contract with you. This protects you and us, and makes sure that everyone knows what is expected.

When you arrive

When do you arrive to set up?
Our standard arrival time is 5pm but this is flexible and we will work with you to fit in with your day.

Can you arrive earlier in the day to set up for an evening event?
This is possible but we would need to discuss the logistics. It may also affect the price if it is much earlier in the day.

How much time do you need to set up?
It usually takes about an hour to set up and at a typical wedding we will do this while the coffee and cake are being served after the speeches. We are experienced at working quietly and discreetly. We understand, however, that all weddings are unique so let us know the plans for your day and we'll work around them.

How much space do you need?
Ideally we require a space no smaller than 4 metres wide and 2 metres deep but we are very accomodating when it comes to space so get in touch and we'll see if we can fit!

How long do you need to soundcheck?
We like to have a good half hour to sound check. However we work within the realms of what's possible.

It may not be possible for you to soundcheck after you have set up. Is that a problem?
Not a huge problem as we can tweak things as we go.

What ifs

What happens if my event is cancelled? Will you still charge us?
This depends on how much notice we receive. We have a standard agreement that we sign with all bookings. If you would like to see a copy of this please contact us.

What if our outdoor event is affected by the weather?
If there is a back-up plan we will do our best to follow your lead and make it work.

What happens is one of the band members is taken ill on the day of my event? Will you cancel?
No, we won't cancel. We are always able to find stand-ins for key members.

During the day

Our event has a dress code. Can you adhere to it?
Let us know what it is and we will do our best to adhere to it. There may be some grumbling if it is a Star Trek themed costume wedding!

Do we need to provide you with food?
Depends on travel distance/time etc. If you're local we can cater for ourselves, if we've driven a long way we would require some food at some point thoughout the evening. All these details will be confirmed as we draw up the contract once you've booked.

Do you need somewhere to change or hang out before you play?
Yes. Nothing ostentatious, just some space to get ready in and warm up. Also to store things like cases out of sight.

Is there any other information that you need?
Once you've checked our availability, we'll send you a link to an online form where you will be able to fill in all the details of your event.
